DOORS Roblox Beginner Tips: How to Survive Your First Run
Essential DOORS Roblox tips for beginners — learn the basics, avoid common mistakes, and survive your first walk through the Hotel.
Guide artwork Overview
So you’ve just spawned in DOORS and you’re standing in front of Door 1. What now? This guide covers everything a new player needs to know to survive their first trip through The Hotel — and hopefully make it further than most.
DOORS is a game of knowledge. Every death teaches you a new rule. The more rules you know, the longer you stay alive. Let’s start with the most important ones.
The Core Loop
Every run in DOORS follows the same pattern:
- Walk through a numbered door into a new room
- Search the room for useful items and the next door
- If an entity appears, react correctly to survive
- Reach the end of the floor (Door 50, Door 100, etc.)
- Take the elevator to the next floor
You start each run with nothing. What you find along the way determines how far you go.
Essential Items to Always Grab
Not every item is a must-have, but these are the ones you should never leave behind:
| Item | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Lighter | Lights up dark rooms. Critical for seeing hiding spots and reading books. |
| Vitamins | Gives a speed boost. Can save you from a bad situation or a sprinting entity. |
| Lockpick | Opens locked doors without finding the key. Saves time and backtracking. |
| Flashlight | Better range than a lighter. Found later in the Hotel. |
| Skeleton Key | Unlocks any lock — including special rooms. Extremely valuable. |
| Crucifix | One-use item that banishes most entities. Your “oh no” button. |
Pro tip: You can carry a limited number of items. Prioritize a light source, a speed boost, and a lockpick for your first few runs.
The 6 Most Important Survival Rules for Beginners
1. If the lights flicker, hide — fast
Flickering lights almost always mean Rush is coming. Rush speeds through every room in a straight line and kills anyone caught in the open.
- What to do: Jump into a closet, hide under a bed, or get behind a bookshelf.
- Don’t: Try to outrun Rush. You can’t.
- Bonus tip: Watch for a green glow under doors — it means Rush just passed the previous room and is on its way.
2. Never stay in one spot during the Seek chase
Seek is the black goop entity that chases you through a series of hallways. When the screen starts distorting and you see eyes on the wall, run.
- Keep moving forward through every room
- Duck under obstacles by pressing the crouch button
- Turn when the hallway turns — don’t run into walls
- Don’t look back — Seek is right behind you, but the path is always forward
3. Figure is blind — but it can hear you
Figure is the boss at Door 50 (and again at Door 100). It can’t see you, but it has excellent hearing.
- Walk, don’t run. Running makes noise that draws Figure toward you.
- Don’t knock things over. Stepping on books or objects alerts it.
- Hide in closets if Figure gets too close.
- For a full strategy: See our Figure Boss Guide.
4. Eyes on the wall = don’t look
If you see a cluster of glowing eyes on a wall or ceiling, look away immediately. This is the Eyes entity, and looking at it deals damage over time.
- Keep your eyes down or turn away until you pass the room.
5. Screech only works in the dark
In very dark rooms, you might hear a whisper and see something dash past your screen. That’s Screech.
- Shine your light directly at Screech to make it go away
- Don’t stand still — keep moving and scanning with your light source
- If it gets you, it’ll deal damage and then vanish
6. Halt wants you to turn around
When the lights go out and the room fills with static, you’ve entered Halt’s domain.
- Walk forward until you hear a deep voice say “turn around”
- Turn completely around and walk the other way
- Keep doing this until the room ends and you escape
- Don’t just run straight — you’ll walk right into Halt
First Run Checklist
Before you click “Play,” make sure you know:
- How to hide in closets (click the prompt when near one)
- How to use your lighter/flashlight (number keys or inventory)
- That flickering lights = Rush = hide
- That Figure can hear you walking
- That the game is supposed to be hard — dying is part of learning
Common Beginner Mistakes
- Trying to fight entities. You can’t. Hide, run, or use items.
- Skipping item rooms. That lockpick you passed up might be the difference between life and death 30 doors later.
- Panicking during Seek. The chase is scripted — you just need to keep going and follow the path.
- Wasting the crucifix. Save it for an entity you don’t know how to counter yet.
- Playing alone when scared. Grab a friend — DOORS supports multiplayer, and more people means more eyes to watch for entities.
