Overview

Figure is the most iconic boss in DOORS — and the one that stops most new players in their tracks. You’ll face it twice in The Hotel: first at Door 50 in the library, and again at Door 100 in the electrical room.

Figure is blind. It can’t see you. But its hearing is so sharp that even a fast walk or a knocked-over book can bring it running straight for you.

This guide breaks down both Figure fights step-by-step, so you can walk (not run) away victorious.

The Golden Rule of Figure: If you can hear it getting louder, it’s getting closer. Stop moving. Wait. Let it pass.

The #1 Rule Before You Even Enter

WALK. EVERYWHERE.

Figure is blind. It tracks you entirely by sound. Here’s the sound hierarchy from quietest to loudest:

  1. Standing still — silent
  2. Crouch-walking — very quiet
  3. Normal walking — quiet (Figure won’t hear from far away)
  4. Sprinting — very loud (Figure hears this from across the room)
  5. Knocking over objects — extremely loud (Figure comes running)
  6. Hiding in a closet — silent once you’re inside

For both Figure fights, you should almost always be walking or crouch-walking. Only sprint in emergencies when you know Figure is on the other side of the room.

Door 50 — The Library

Door 50 is your first encounter with Figure. You walk into a massive two-story library, and Figure is patrolling the upper level. Your goal: find 8 books with unique shapes on their spines, decode the combination, and escape through the locked door upstairs.

Step 1: Enter and Assess

  1. Walk in slowly. Don’t run through the door.
  2. Listen for Figure. You’ll hear footsteps and groaning from the upper floor.
  3. Find a desk with a shape guide. There’s a sheet of paper on a desk that shows which shape corresponds to which number in the combination. Memorize it or keep going back to check.
  4. Start searching the ground floor first. It’s safer — Figure starts upstairs.

Step 2: Find the 8 Books

  • Books are on bookshelves throughout both floors of the library
  • Each book has a unique shape on its spine: circle, square, triangle, diamond, star, hexagon, heart, and one more
  • Click a book to pick it up and see its shape
  • Write down or remember each shape and the number order shown on the guide sheet

Pro tip: Search in a pattern. Start with one side of the library and work your way around. That way you won’t miss shelves or waste time re-checking.

Step 3: Enter the Combination

  1. Once you have all 8 shapes, go to the combination lock upstairs
  2. Figure is more likely to be up here — listen carefully before going up the stairs
  3. Enter the shapes in the correct order based on the guide sheet
  4. If you get it wrong, the lock makes a noise that alerts Figure — hide fast

Step 4: Escape

  1. After entering the correct code, the door opens
  2. Walk through quickly but quietly
  3. The elevator to Door 51 is inside — get in and hit the button
  4. You did it — you beat Figure the first time!

Library Tips & Tricks

  • Use bookshelves as cover. If Figure is on the same level as you, put a shelf between you and it.
  • There are closets. Several closets on both floors give you a safe place to wait if Figure is hunting nearby.
  • Don’t step on books on the floor. Yes, really. The crinkle sound alerts Figure.
  • Take your time. There’s no timer. Slow and steady wins this fight.
  • Vitamins are for emergencies only. Don’t waste them running from place to place when walking is safe. Save them for when Figure surprises you.

Door 100 — The Elevator Escape

Door 100 is your second — and final — encounter with Figure in The Hotel. This one is very different from the library. It’s faster, more action-focused, and you have a lot less room to hide.

What Happens

  1. You walk through Door 100 into a large room
  2. An elevator is at the far end — run for it
  3. Figure bursts in and chases you
  4. You get in the elevator and start going down…
  5. …and then the elevator breaks and crashes
  6. You wake up in a maintenance basement. Figure is still hunting you.
  7. You need to find the circuit breaker room and restore power to call a new elevator.

Step-by-Step Strategy

Phase 1: The Initial Run

  • Sprint straight for the elevator. Don’t stop.
  • Figure is right behind you — don’t look back
  • Hit the button as soon as you’re inside

Phase 2: The Basement

  1. After the crash, get up and start moving quietly
  2. You’re in a dark maintenance area — turn on your light
  3. Figure is in here with you. Listen for footsteps.
  4. Your goal: find the circuit breaker room. It’s usually marked with a sign.

Phase 3: The Circuit Breakers

  1. Once you find the breaker room, go inside — there are multiple switches
  2. Flip every switch to restore power
  3. Figure will hear the switches clicking — be ready to hide
  4. There are lockers in here you can use
  5. When all switches are on, power is restored

Phase 4: Escape

  1. Leave the breaker room and head for the new elevator
  2. Move quickly but quietly — Figure is still hunting
  3. Get in the elevator and hit the button
  4. Congratulations — you’ve beaten The Hotel!

Door 100 Tips & Tricks

  • Use vitamins for the initial run. You need every bit of speed.
  • There are lockers in the maintenance area. Learn where they are — they’re your only safe spots.
  • Use pillars for cover. If Figure is coming down a hallway, duck behind a pillar and wait for it to pass.
  • Don’t hide forever. Unlike the library, you have a goal here — restore power and get out. Hide only when you have to.
  • This fight is shorter than Door 50 but more intense. Stay focused.

Common Figure Mistakes

  1. Running everywhere. This is the #1 reason people die to Figure. Walk.
  2. Stepping on books in the library. It sounds silly, but it’s a real death cause.
  3. Not listening for footsteps. Figure’s audio cues are your radar. If the volume is rising, it’s getting closer — freeze.
  4. Wasting the crucifix on Figure. You can use a crucifix on Figure, but it’s overkill — Figure is totally beatable with strategy. Save it for something worse.
  5. Panicking at Door 100. The initial chase is scary, but if you just sprint straight for the elevator, you’ll make it every time.
  6. Going upstairs too early in the library. Figure starts on the upper floor. Clear the ground floor first for safer searching.

What’s After Figure?
