Overview

The Mines is Floor 2 of DOORS, released on August 30, 2024. After escaping the Hotel elevator, players find themselves deep underground in an abandoned mining complex filled with dark caverns, rickety mine cart tracks, and entirely new threats.

This guide covers everything you need to know to make it through The Mines — new entities, unique mechanics, and tips for the toughest sections.

Floor Overview

DetailInfo
Floor NameThe Mines
ReleasedAugust 30, 2024
SettingAbandoned underground mine
Unique FeatureMine cart rides, dark caverns, rocky tunnels
Preceded ByThe Hotel (Floor 1)
Followed ByThe Archives (Floor 3)

The Mines trades the Hotel’s dark hallways and closets for open caverns, support beams, and environmental hazards. The survival rules you learned in the Hotel still apply — but many entities here work differently.

New Mechanics in The Mines

The Mines introduces several mechanics you won’t find in The Hotel:

Mine Cart Sections

Some rooms require you to ride a mine cart through tunnels. During these sections:

  • Stay in the cart — you can’t get off early
  • Duck under low ceilings and beams
  • Watch for cave-ins and falling debris
  • Some entities can appear during cart rides, so stay alert

Dark Caverns

Large open cave areas with very limited visibility. A flashlight or lighter is essential.

  • The space is wide open — there are fewer closets to hide in
  • Use rock pillars and mining equipment for cover
  • Sound travels differently in open caves — listen carefully for entity cues

Mining Equipment Rooms

Rooms filled with drills, crushers, and conveyor belts. Some are interactive; some are just scenery. Always check for items on workbenches and in supply crates.

All Mines Entities & How to Survive Them

The Mines has its own set of entities alongside some familiar faces from The Hotel.

New — Snare

A trap entity that hides in the ground and trips you.

  • Cue: A slight bulge or distortion on the floor
  • Survive: Watch where you step. Avoid areas that look unusual.
  • Note: Snare doesn’t kill you directly, but it slows you down during chases — which can be deadly.

New — Jeff

A friendly entity who runs a shop.

  • Cue: You’ll find Jeff’s Shop in certain rooms
  • Survive: Nothing — Jeff is a friend!
  • Note: You can buy items from Jeff using knobs (in-game currency). Bring extra knobs.

New — Grumble

A large entity that rumbles through cave tunnels.

  • Cue: Loud rumbling sound, shaking screen
  • Survive: Get to cover behind something sturdy. Don’t be in its path.
  • Note: Similar energy to Rush but underground — the rumble is your warning.

New — Dirt

A variant that appears in cave-ins and earthy rooms.

  • Cue: Dust clouds, falling dirt
  • Survive: Move away from falling debris areas
  • Note: Environmental hazard rather than a traditional entity

Returning — Rush

Rush still appears in The Mines, roaring through mine tunnels.

  • Cue: Flickering lights (where there are lights), distant roar
  • Survive: Hide in a closet, behind equipment, or under mine cart platforms
  • Note: Cover options are different in the Mines — plan hiding spots in advance

Returning — Screech

Screech loves dark caves — and there are plenty in The Mines.

  • Cue: Whispering, movement in the dark
  • Survive: Shine your light directly at it
  • Note: Keep that flashlight charged. Dark caverns are Screech’s playground.

Returning — Eyes

Eyes appear on cave walls and support beams.

  • Cue: Glowing eyes on rock surfaces
  • Survive: Look away immediately
  • Note: In open caverns, you might see Eyes from further away — easier to avoid

Key Sections & How to Beat Them

The Descent

The first section of The Mines. You ride an elevator down from the Hotel and emerge in a mining shaft entrance.

  • Grab items from the supply room
  • Walk through the first few mine tunnel rooms
  • Watch for Snare traps on the dirt floors
  • Don’t rush — learn the new environment first

The Cart Ride

A major set piece where you ride a mine cart through a long tunnel system.

  • Before you get in: Make sure you have your flashlight and vitamins ready
  • During the ride: Duck under beams, watch for cave-ins
  • Stay seated — jumping off early leads to damage or death
  • At the end: The cart stops, and you continue on foot

The Caverns

Large open cave areas with tricky navigation and fewer hiding spots.

  • Stick to paths — don’t wander off into the dark
  • Use pillars for cover when entities appear
  • Listen carefully — sound echoes in caves, making some cues harder to place
  • Check every supply crate — you’ll need items for the deeper sections

The Drill Room

A large room with an active drill. Industrial and loud.

  • The noise of the drill can mask entity sounds — stay visually alert
  • There are usually multiple items here
  • Watch your step around moving machinery

The Deep Shaft

The final section before the next floor. Darker, tighter, and more dangerous.

  • Save your crucifix and vitamins for this section
  • Expect frequent dark rooms and Screech encounters
  • Move carefully — Snare traps are more common deeper in
  • The exit elevator is at the bottom

Tips for Surviving The Mines

  1. Bring a good light source. The Mines are darker than the Hotel on average. Flashlight > Lighter here.
  2. Save knobs for Jeff’s Shop. You’ll need them for rare items deep in the mines.
  3. Watch the floor. Snare traps are everywhere on dirt paths.
  4. Learn the cover spots. There are fewer closets, so memorize what counts as cover in each room type.
  5. Use vitamins during open-cave chases. When there’s nowhere to hide, speed is your best friend.
  6. Don’t jump off mine carts. Seriously. Just don’t.

What’s Next?

After The Mines comes the newest floor — **The Archives (Floor 3) ** — released on August 31, 2026. The Archives brings a new sub-floor, never-before-seen entities, and over 10 new items.
