The New Floor: The Archives
The Archives is a brand-new area accessible after The Mines. It’s described as a massive, forgotten archival complex filled with documents, artifacts, and things that should have stayed buried.
What We Know About The Archives
- Theme: Abandoned archive / storage facility
- Atmosphere: Dark, claustrophobic corridors lined with filing cabinets and boxes
- New mechanics: Document rooms, archive puzzles, reworked floor progression
- Connection to lore: The Archives seem to tie into the DOORS backstory — expect revelations about the entities and the facility
For a full walkthrough of every room and puzzle in The Archives, see our Floor 3 — The Archives Walkthrough.
New Entities
The Archives update introduces multiple brand-new entities. These are the stars of the update — and some of them completely change how you play.
For detailed survival strategies for every new entity, see our New Archives Entities Guide.
Here’s a quick overview of what’s new:
New Entity Highlights
-
The Archivist — A new boss entity that patrols the archive halls. Described as tall, slow, and methodical — but with a terrifying trick up its sleeve.
-
Page Turner — A smaller entity that hides among stacks of books and documents. It’s hard to see until it’s too late.
-
Card Catalog — A trap entity disguised as a filing cabinet. Open the wrong drawer and things get bad.
-
Static — An entity that manifests in areas with old recording equipment. Think TV static, but it’s alive.
-
Dust — A swarm entity that fills rooms with choking dust clouds. Breathing is optional.
Note: Entity names and descriptions are based on official trailer analysis, developer announcements, and early community findings. Exact names and mechanics may differ from early reports — always verify in-game.
New Items (10+)
The Archives update adds over 10 new items to the game. Here’s what we’ve confirmed so far:
Tools & Equipment
- Battery — Recharges your flashlight on the go. Finally!
- Gas Mask — Protects against dust and airborne entities
- Document Key — Unlocks sealed archive doors
- Glow Stick — Alternative light source that doesn’t attract certain entities
- Tape Recorder — Plays back audio logs. Also useful for… something else.
Consumables
- Energy Bar — Similar to vitamins but with a different effect profile
- Anti-Histamine — Counters specific status effects
- Rubber Gloves — Protects against electrical traps
Rare / Special
- Archive Key — Opens the deepest, most restricted areas of The Archives
- Magnifying Glass — Reveals hidden details in documents and on walls
New Locations & Rooms
The Archives isn’t just one long hallway — it’s a complex with distinct areas:
The Lobby
The entry point to The Archives. Grand, decaying, and a safe zone… probably.
The Stacks
Endless rows of filing cabinets and document boxes. Most of the new entities live here.
The Reading Room
A large, open room with tables and chairs. Home to a major story beat.
The Vault
A heavily secured area deep in The Archives. You’ll need special keys to get in.
The Basement Archives
Even deeper. Even darker. Even worse things live down here.
The REDACTED Badge
The Archives update includes a secret REDACTED badge — a hidden achievement that players are already racing to unlock.
What we know:
- It’s a secret/hidden badge (not listed in the normal badge page)
- It requires finding something specific in The Archives
- Multiple YouTube guides are already titled things like “the ONLY way to get the REDACTED badge”
For our step-by-step guide to unlocking the REDACTED badge, see How to Get the REDACTED Badge.
Changes to Existing Content
The Archives update isn’t just new content — it also brings changes to existing floors:
- Reworked lighting system across all floors
- Updated entity models for some classic monsters
- New modifier options for custom runs
- Balance changes to items, entity spawn rates, and damage values
- Updated UI with new menus and inventory improvements
New Codes
Major updates almost always come with celebration codes. Check our DOORS Codes page for the latest working codes — including any Archives update codes from LSPLASH.
Getting Started with The Archives
Ready to jump in? Here’s how to access the new content:
- Beat The Mines (Floor 2) — you need to reach the end
- The Archives entrance opens after the Mines elevator
- Bring a good light source — it’s even darker down there
- Save your crucifix — you’ll probably need it
- Expect to die a lot — that’s normal for a new floor
